Five Photographs

2009 – 2013

I took them in the years I was still finding my way. Later, they were recognised at PX3 in Paris and at the IPA.

It was in 2013, too, that I walked into real estate.

Ordered by award level within each competition: PX3’s Silver and Bronze first, then the IPA’s Honorable Mentions.

On the winners’ lists my name is written three ways: Beng Wai Lee, Kevin Lee and Lee Beng Wai. All of them are me.

  1. In warm brown tones, a bride smiles beneath her veil.

  2. A round mirror; in it, a face in stage make-up, a red blur in the foreground.
    02Hypothetical
  3. On a pebble beach, an ascetic in a red robe sits facing the sea, a green headland in the distance.
    03Pray of an ascetic
  4. Heavy rain at night: two people embrace under a white umbrella, the wet ground reflecting the lights of a building.
    04Raining Love
  5. Black and white: a white veil, a profile, a hand lightly touching a chin.
    05Grace of heart

At the time, I was in Taiwan on the overseas Chinese programme.

The same morning, I also took these two.

In those years, I worked in my father’s glass and picture-frame shop.

A month later, my brother took me into selling resale homes.

That December, I went into real estate full-time. I never stopped taking photographs.
